Go-palan
The day begins with cleaning, feeding, and milking the cows. The notes of flute in the air, a breathtaking view of the sunrise and a hot cup of tea, lure the residents and the guests to the shrine of Madanagopala standing amid the Tulasi garden, blurring the lines between illusion and reality.
The Goshala at The Sacred Grove houses only Desi cows; they are fed organically grown grass and are free of the practice of introducing hormones known to be harmful for health. Nurtured with love and care, the three generations of cows and bulls continue to be the center of attention at the Sacred Grove.
Surabhi, Gopal, Nanda Gopal, Satpal, Devi, Krishna, and Amba were born at the Sacred Grove These off-springs represent three breeds of cows and bulls adorning the Goshala - Gir, Sahiwal and Rathi. Gir cows are originally from Sourashtra- Gujrat, Sahiwal from greater Punjab, and Rathi from Rajasthan. Coming from three different regions of India, these have one thing in common, they are desi, i.e., indigenous to this subcontinent.
‘Go-Palan’ for physical, psychological and economic health
Apart from the sentiments associated with desi, humped cows, in the Indian psyche, they are known for providing A2 Beta-casein milk minus Histidine component of protein, present in A1 milk associated with allergies. In addition to being gut and heart friendly, A2 milk is also considered to be good against Diabetes.
These breeds of bovine defy the general notion that desi cows give very little milk as against the breeds imported from other subcontinents. In fact, milk and ghee from these breeds can boost economic health in rural economy. It is time, The Sacred Grove takes lead in spreading the message of Go-palan of desi cows for better physical, psychological and even economic health.
